Well, folks buckle up. Dick Cheney, the 46th Vice President of the United States, has passed away at the age of 84 on November 4th, 2025. Love him or loathe him, there’s no denying this: Cheney cast one of the longest and darkest shadows in modern American politics. He wasn’t merely a man of government he was a man of power, and he knew exactly how to use it.

The Vice President of the United States holds two explicitly defined constitutional roles: presiding over the U.S. Senate and casting a tie-breaking vote there, and succeeding to the presidency if the President dies, resigns, or is disabled. Outside of those duties, the Vice President does not “answer to ANY authority”, rather, the Vice President serves by virtue of the Constitution and the popular election (via the Electoral College), operates under delegation from the President and Congress, and is subject to the same constitutional and legal constraints as other federal officers. No one in history used this loophole to hilt like Dick Cheney.
