Forbes’ annual ranking of the world’s richest individuals has revealed a historic milestone: the number of billionaires globally has exceeded 3,000 for the first time. Wow! To say the least. In its 2025 list, Forbes identified 3,028 billionaires, an increase of 274 from the previous year. Together, they hold an astonishing $16.1 trillion in combined wealth, proof of the continued expansion of global financial markets, technological advancements, and business innovations in a multitude of never-seen-before ventures. The world has changed drastically.
The Billionaire Boom
The surge in the number of billionaires can be attributed to multiple factors, including the rapid growth of tech-driven industries, stock market gains, and new emerging markets contributing to new and expanded wealth creation. The technology sector, in particular, remains a dominant force in wealth accumulation, with industry leaders continuing to expand their financial empires. We thought the 80s were great.
